MIRON BLEIBERG – HEAD COACH & DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL

Irrepressible, colourful, outspoken, insightful, unique. These adjectives, along with many more, have long been associated with the one and only Miron Bleiberg.
One of the most recognisable figures in modern Australian football, Miron is at the helm of the Gold Coast United football department in his role as Head Coach and Director of Football.
After completing his stint as the inaugural coach of Queensland Roar in the Hyundai A-League, Miron enjoyed a brief hiatus from coaching his beloved game and instead forged a reputation as an astute media pundit. It was a role he enjoyed as he articulated his thoughts to the nation in his own inimitable style via his commentary work on Fox Sports and regular newspaper column.
But his love affair with the media was transcended by his marriage to coaching and club life. With a dual role as both Head Coach and Director of Football, Bleiberg will oversee the entire football operation and ensure all Gold Coast United teams are geared for success.
“Like any other coach I will measure my success with the first team by the results on the field. But in my capacity as Director of Football I will make sure that the whole football department strives for excellence; from junior to senior. In our performances and the way we do our business we will look to set new standards,” he said.

PAUL OKON – FIRST TEAM COACH

The 37-year-old former Socceroos skipper began his stellar career with Marconi in the old National League (NSL) before being lured overseas to Belgium. Stints at many top European clubs, including Lazio and Fiorentina in Italy's Serie A, Middlesbrough and Leeds United in the English Premiership and Club Brugge in Belgium's Jupiler League, honed his talents even further.
Blessed with grace and vision, Okon glided elegantly around the field during his halcyon days at Belgium’s Club Brugge and Lazio in Italy. His career was punctuated by injury but his fitness misfortunes did not prevent him from achieving 37 caps in total with the Australian national team. With his leadership qualities evident, Okon captained the Socceroos on 24 occasions and represented his country at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.
Returning to home soil, Okon spent the 2006/07 season with the Newcastle Jets in the Hyundai A-League before injury brought down the curtain on his playing career.

MIKE MULVEY – YOUTH TEAM COACH

Regarded as one of Australia’s top development mentors, Mulvey played a pivotal role in Queensland’s outstanding player production line that has yielded the likes of Tahj Minniecon, Robbie Kruse, Tom Oar and Luke DeVere – all current Hyundai A-League players.

Mulvey stood down from his position as Men’s Head Coach at the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) to pursue his Hyundai A-League ambitions. Although recruited to oversee the Gold Coast United Youth Team, his role will see him work closely with United’s Head Coach & Director of Football, Miron Bleiberg, as well as First Team Coach, Paul Okon.

Prior to his three-year stint as QAS Men’s Head Coach, Mulvey enjoyed remarkable success as the QAS Women’s Head Coach, winning the National League on four occasions between 1999 and 2007. A holder of the Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) 'A' Coaching Certificate, he was also Assistant Coach with the Australian Under 20 National Team from 2007 to 2009.

GRAHAM ROSS – GOALKEEPER COACH

Charged with the responsibility of bringing out the best in United’s senior and youth custodians is goalkeeper Coach Graham Ross.

A successful goalkeeper in his own right, Ross was a member of the Brisbane Strikers’ Grand Final winning side in 1997 and has since embarked on a flourishing local coaching career that has seen him become one of Queensland’s most respected authorities on the art of goalkeeping.

As part of his business interests, Ross has conducted many overseas football and goalkeeping tours where he has appeared as a guest coach and had the opportunity to swap goalkeeping philosophies with some of the top clubs in Europe.

Upon signing Ross, Head Coach Miron Bleiberg sang his praises.

“Graham is a student of the game and brings a lot to the table, not just his goalkeeping knowledge. He will add a great deal to our club,” he said.
